Drove in fro Athens for this show. Took forever to set up the Wall of Sound. Phil came out, alone with a glass of wine, and proceeded to yell about the promoters, the Belkin brothers. Told the crowd not to be pissed at the take it up with the Belkin brothers......YIKES

After 2 LONG years I finally tracked down the bonus disc that was sent out with preorders for the Winterland '73 box set. It was well worth the wait. The highlight for me is GDTRFB>Casey Jones. Also the Truckin>Stella Blue is good also. What the hell the whole damn thing is GREAT!!!!! If you can locate just the bonus disc it's well worth the $$$. 5*****. Peace.

Subject: I was there
This was my first Grateful Dead concert when I was 14 years old. The reason the show is so short is there was some problems getting to the venue. I sat there and watched them assemble much of the wall of sound as they started a couple of hours late. even though it was short it did go late. It was a school night and I didn't get to stay for the whole show. BUMMER!

...I hear that a lot from my wife also.

I listened to this whole show on Sirius radio. In a year with a huge number of stellar shows, it's a pretty nice, little show. There is some real interesting shit going on in the Truckin'>Stella Blue jam. A definite highlight. I always find something new and mind blowing when I listen to Captain Trips and the Boys.
The whole gig is solid. I think if I had actually gone to this show I may have been a tad disappointed.
With the usual Dead show being around 3 hours, this one is considerably shorter that the standard. But, I wasn't there and I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the listening experience. Even though it's a little short, what they did play this night is great Grateful Dead.
Hang loose.

This is a short show @ only 15 songs---16 if you consider China Cat Sunflower & I Know You Rider to be 2 seperate songs. BUT...unfortunately this is only the 1st set, so there are only 11 or 12 songs, depneding on your point of view.

What's represented here is a solid 3 stars, and remember that these are 1973 Stars I'm talking about. I had to knock it down at least a star because of the incomplete show, and there ARE a few miscues & parts of songs that just don't quite work out to my ears. Don't let any of that dissuade you from listening to this though, because it is from '73 afterall.

The sets look like someone just wanted to be Different this show. Imagine that from these guys.

Sounds are good. ChinaCat Transition is excellent.
Lots of nice clear Jerry.

It ends after round and round
It didn't change my life but it sure made my afternoon more enjoyable.
